Red Cubs, Hope Christian clash for title
The San Beda Red Cubs held off a late charge by the NU Bullpups for an 88-78 win that sent them to the Division One Finals of the 30th Seaoil Metro Manila Basketball League at the SBC gym.
SBC will face Hope Christian High School at 3:30 p.m., following the Division 3 final between Colegio San Benildo-Rizal versus San Beda-C at 2 p.m.
At 11 a.m., De La Salle-Zobel battles Chiang Kai Shek College for the girls division championship; while National University-C meets San Beda-D in the Division 4 title clash at 12:30 p.m.
JV Mocon scored 19 points for San Beda, the NCAA juniors champions. NU’s Herbert Cani matched Mocon’s output but didn’t get enough support from his teammates in the semifinals played at San Beda Gym in Mendiola last Tuesday.
The Seaoil MMBL is one of the country’s oldest high school tourneys. This year, 70 teams from the National Capital Region participated in the threemonth competition.
The top four teams here will join 12 other regional champion schools from provinces all over the country in the MVP Sports Foundation-backed Seaoil-NBTC National Secondary Basketball Championships.
The battle for third place in the different divisions pit La Salle College Antipolo against UNO High School (Girls) at 9:30 a.m.; La Salle College Antipolo against Espiritu Santo Parochial School (Div. 4) at 11 a.m.; Colegio de San Agustin Bian against San Beda College Alabang-A (Div. 3) at 12:30 p.m.; UST-B vs. NU-B (Div. 2) at 2 p.m.; and NU-A against DLSZ-A (Div. 1) at 3:30 p.m.
