Laguna-based semiconductor firm Cirtek Holdings Philippines Corp. expects to get a big revenue boost this year from new products slated to be introduced to the market.

Antonio Callueng, Cirtek’s semiconductor business (CEC) vice president for sales and marketing, said the company is set to pioneer in the country a technology that uses Gallium Nitride ( GaN) as a semiconductor material which would allow devices to operate at much higher voltages, frequencies and temperature.

Callueng said the GaN technology is currently used in various telecommunication applications such as WiFi, data, and broadband.

“We are working with several customers in various stages of development; we expect initial product release late this year,” Callueng said.

“To be one of the pioneers to utilize GaN technology puts CEC in an advantageous position, allowing it to quickly acquire valuable market share,” CEC president Jorge Aguilar added.

Cirtek’s microwave and millimeterwave division, meanwhile, recently launched a mobile point-of-sale (POS) terminal which has multifunction features that provide an ideal solution for payment processing anywhere.

“The mobile POS terminal has huge application potential in diverse businesses such as utility billing, financing, inventory management, distribution, ticketing, food stalls/ kiosk, among others,” Cirtek said.

Cirtek’s POS product is now used in the local transportation sector for bus ticketing and is being planned to be introduced to different sectors as well.

Cirtek earlier said it plans to introduce to the market at least six new products this year following a profitable 2014 in which it saw its earnings grew by almost half.

Cirtek posted a net income of $6.8 million last year, up by 45 percent from $4.7 million in 2013 behind higher sales and improved profit margin.

Revenues likewise jumped by 18 percent to $52 million last year from $43.9 million in 2013.
