Barredo, Cudiamat top badminton ranking system

-

Rising star Sarah Joy Barredo and Michael Kevin Cudiamat of Philippine Badminton Association (PBA)-Smash Pilipinas led the latest Philippine National Ranking System (PNRS) singles category after dominating their various tournaments sanctioned by the PBA.

Barredo, who captured her first women’s open singles title in the FDG Cup, leads the race with 31250 PNRS ranking points this month while teammates Pauline Tan and Aira Mae Nicole Albo settled for second and third with 30450 and 28700, respectively.

“My focus now is to maintain my position and aim higher,” said Barredo, who will turn 16 this October. “I will do my best in every tournament and also as a national player.”

Aside from the FDG Cup, Barredo has also won last year’s Toby’s Sports badminton tournament and the Philippine National Games (PNG).

She also placed first runner-up in last year’s Smart Open and Bingo Bonanza, making her a threat in this year’s two upcoming tournaments.

Cudiamat, on the other hand, took the No. 1 latest ranking in the men’s singles category with 31470 points. Rabbie Jason Oba-ob is second with 28870 and R-Jay Ormilla third with 28300.

All their points were based on their recent performance in the PBA’s six sanctioned tournaments since last year.

These are the 2014 and 2015 Prima Pasta Open, FDG Cup 2014, Bingo Bonanza 2014, Smart National Open 2014 and PNG.

The PNRS ranking system is made possible by the PBA headed by secretary-general and Negros Occidental Representative Albee Benitez and businessman Manny V. Pangilinan of Smart Communication.

“We made this Philippine National Ranking System since our very first day in the association because we really wanted to encourage the players to play their very best and become No. 1,” said Benitez. “In this ranking system, we can identify who are the best.”
