Manila Water lends hand to Aklan agri cooperatives

-

Manila Water Foundation has extended financial aid to seven agricultural cooperatives in Aklan to help improve their livelihood projects.

This is under the Manila Water Foundation’s Kabuhayan Para Sa Barangay program in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform-Aklan, Cooperative Development Authority (CDA)Aklan, Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Aklan, and Boracay Island Water Co. (BIWC).

Badiangan Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Numancia Vegetables & Fruits Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Rosario Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Kabulihan Coconut Farmers Multi- Purpose Cooperative, Kalipunan ng Maliliit na Magniniyog ng Napaan Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Dumlog Coconut Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Kadeco Multi-Purpose Cooperative received non- interest bearing loans of P100,000 each.

Manila Water Foundation recognizes the fact that while agriculture remains to be a big contributor to the growth of the Philippine economy and the main source of living for many families in the provinces, Filipino farmers continue to grasp for all the help they can get from both the government and the private sector.

“Partnerships between public offices and private organizations are needed to break ground and eliminate limits, such as low capital for start-ups and stagnation of skills and knowledge in the industry. We hope that more organizations will join Manila Water Foundation in extending help to our farmers and BoP communities in general,” Manila Water Foundation executive director Carla May Beriña-Kim.

The Province of Aklan, in turn, presented Manila Water Foundation with a Plaque of Recognition for its continued support and dedication to the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension.
