Van Ness Wu: On style, jeans and women

- By VERNS JOVEN

Taiwanese singer, actor and

Asia’s Got Talent host Van Ness Wu recently paid tribute to the fashion style of Asian women: unique, comfortable and stylish with his DIY denim jacket and favorite black skinny jeans, during the launch of Levi’s Women’s Denim Collection in Manila.

He recalled seeing a very expensive designer jacket in a store and it inspired him to customize his own. “Instead of paying an uber amount of money, I thought I can do it myself. So I gathered the patches I bought during my visit in Paris, Belgium and other places and DIY it,” he said.

During his visit, Van Ness also offered a few tips for the ladies based on his personal style. “When I go out, I wear anything, but I have these (fashion) concepts that stayed true to me, and that’s how I try to dress every time,” he shared.

He explained, “You have to be comfortable in your clothes, you have to be free when you’re moving in it and you should not feel like the clothes are wearing you.”

Knowing that the struggle is real in finding that perfect pair of jeans, Van Ness would turn to experts like Levi’s because according to him they know jeans like no other. For instance, his “goto jeans,” Levi’s 511, comes in different styles and is not only trendy but also comfortable and fits perfectly as well.

Although he likes a lot of styles, from the skinny to straight to bootcut, he prefers the slim fit and low-rise look in women. “I always go back to hiphop and dancing since I love both, so whenever I see women in jeans and their sporty get-up while doing their moves, I find it really sexy,” he said.

So does Van Ness believe in the saying “behind every great woman is a great pair of jeans? “One hundred percent!” he answered, complete with his trademark smile.
