SLEX operator, truckers meet on safety inspection

-

Officers of the Manila Toll Expressway Systems Inc. (MATES), operator of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) recently held a dialogue with the truckers whose trucks/trailers ply the 108-km toll road from Makati City to Batangas City regarding the Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection (MVSI) program at the Skyway System, SLEX and Star Tollway.

The MVSI is being implemented to enforce strict compliance of vehicles, particularly trucks, to the highest standards of safety and roadworthiness.

The dialogue, which was coordinated with the Office of the Mayor of Calamba City, focused on the truckers’ concerns that the safety inspection affects the timely delivery of goods/ products to the detriment of their services to clients who are mostly foreign locators at the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

The Southern Tollways management accommodated the truckers’ request to ease the inspection after getting their assurance and commitment that they will police their own ranks and ensure that their trucks shall meet and observe safety and vehicle roadworthy standards. To facilitate inspection, PEZA certification shall be conspicuously displayed on the trucks.

The dialogue (above) held last July 20 was attended by Calamba Mayor Timmy Chipeco, Southern Tollways officers led by their president Manuel Bonoan and owners/representatives of Tri-G Trucking, Rackwell, Stronghands Logistics Co., Quadson Transport, Sprint, Cando and BS King Transmovers.
