JBC set to interview bets for CTA post

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is set to interview 23 candidates for the position of associate justice of the Court of Tax Appeals ahead of the retirement of Associate Justice Amelia Cotangco-Manalastas on Sept. 11.

The JBC has grouped the candidates into six batches, and set the interviews from Aug. 8 to 10.

The morning interview will be from 9 a.m. to noon, while the afternoon interview will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In the morning of Aug. 8, the interviewe­es are Pablo Espiritu, Corazon Ferrer- Flores, Caridad Grecia- Cuertdo and Encarncion Jaja Moya. In the afternoon, the interviewe­es are Celos Baguio, Paz Esperanza Cortez, Frank Lobrigo and Maria Rowena ModestoSan Pedro.

On Aug. 9, the JBC will interview Ismael Duldulao, Marylyn Flauta, Dennis Patrick Perez and Dax Xenos in the morning. In the afternoon, Lilian Barribal-Co, Catherine Manahan, Vilma Pauig and Salvador Timbang Jr. will appear before the council.

Lorenza Bordios, Olivia EscubioSam­ar, Honorio Guanlao Jr. and Ruby Maria Sison are scheduled for interview in the morning of Aug. 10. In the afternoon, the JBC will interview Ma. Teresa De Guzman-Alvarez, Edgar Dalmacio Santos and Merianthe Pacita Zuraek.

The JBC interviewe­d 10 other candidates earlier. They are Betlee-lan Barraquias, Ma. Celestina Cruz-Mangrobang, Rowena De Juan-Quinagoran, Teodora Gonzales, Virgilio Macaraig, Rodolfo Quimbo, Nancy Rivas-Palmones, Andres Soriano, Esteban Tacla and Jose Bayani Usman.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Bar Confidant announced that the period to file bar petitions was extended until Aug. 15. This was upon the instructio­ns of 2016 Bar Examinatio­ns Committee chairman Supreme Court Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr.

“The extension of the period to file applies to all applicants regardless of whether the law schools are following the traditiona­l (June to March) or the modified (August to June) academic calendar,” it said.
