Hernandez steers Dewey Boulevard to Bagatsing race victory

-

Top pick Dewey Boulevard beat Radio Active in a return duel of Triple Crown leg winners and won the P1 million Centennial Classics race of the eighth Ramon Bagatsing Centennial Classique at San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite last Sunday.

Dewey Boulevard, a three-yearold colt piloted by ace jocket Jonathan Hernandez and owned by Hermie Esguerra, stalked the fast- starting Radio Active majority of the 1,750-meter race then galloped past his fading rival at the far turn before finishing five meters ahead in one minute, 50.2 seconds.

The racing festival hosted by the Manila Jockey Club was held in memory of the late Manila Mayor Ramon Bagatsing, one of Philippine horseracing’s finest ambassadors.

Organizer Atty. Dondon Bagatsing, son of the former Manila Mayor, said they are pleased with the outcome of the racefest.

“It was a success. There were long- shot winners and there were sure winners. There were favorites and there were underdogs in the lineup. We were grateful for the support of the racing public,” said Bagatsing.
