Zamboanga bets dominate Dipolog tennis leg

Zamboanga Del Norte aces dominated their rivals from nearby provinces and cities, winning five of the nine titles disputed in the Cebuana Lhuillier age-group tennis championsh­ip in Dipolog City recently.

Sydney Enriquez led the Zambo del Norte’s charge with victories in the girls’ 16- and-18-under divisions at the RGS Tennis Center. She trounced Ella Ramirez of Oroquieta City, 6-3, 6-3, for the 16-U plum then ripped Antoine Oliveros, 6-1, 6-0, for the 18-U diadem in the tournament backed by Dunlop Sports and Dunlop (official ball).

Ramirez earlier took the 14- U crown with a 6- 3, 6- 3 romp over Carmera Borromeo.

Local bets Rica Labrador, Emery Dungon, and Mark Fernandez also topped their respective categories with Labrador scoring a 6-3, 6-3 win over Oroquieta’s Antoine Necessario for the 12-U title. Dungon copped the boys’ 18- U crown with a 7- 6, 7-5 decision over another Oroquieta City bet Jenkin Paulo Montejo while Fernandez bagged the 10- unisex diadem with a 4-1, 4-2 rout of Brent Cortes.

“A lot of unfamiliar names have emerged so far in this year’s series with same young tennis players expected to emerge our future national players,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, president/ CEO of the sponsoring Cebuana Lhuillier Group. He is also the current Philta chairman.

Pagadian’s rising star Nilo Ledama matched Enriquez’ twin title feat as he took the boys’ 14-U and 16-U crowns. He bested Dipolog’s Stephen Zion Guia, 6-2, 6-2, in the 14-U finals and thwarted him in the 16-U, 6-4, 7-5.
