- By PERSEUS ECHEMINADA

A barangay councilman allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade was arrested by operatives of the Southern Police District (SPD) in a sting on Saturday night.

Kagawad Jordan Garland of Barangay 43, Zone 6 was apprehended after he allegedly sold shabu worth P5,000 to a police officer who posed as a buyer at around 7:45 p.m. along Tramo street.

Being a barangay official, police said Garland was considered a high-value target in the campaign against illegal drugs.

Authorities said the suspect also yielded shabu with an estimated street value of P70,000.

Garland denied involvement in illegal drug deals.

He claimed that he was playing basketball when a police officer approached him and brought him to the barangay hall in Palanan, Makati where the drugs were allegedly planted.

Last July, Garland said he surrendered to police under Oplan Tokhang to clear his name after learning that he was on the drug watchlist.

Police said Garland would be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Party drug supplier falls

In Taguig, police arrested a nurse who allegedly supplied party drugs to highend bars in Taguig and Makati cities.

Kenneth Santillan was nabbed in the parking lot of F1 Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, SPD director Senior Superintendent Tomas Apolinario Jr. said.

Apolinario said Santillan had been under surveillance by operatives of the Taguig police anti-illegal drug unit prior to his arrest.

Police said they recovered Ecstasy tablets, liquid shabu and marijuana from Santillan.
