Dental health awareness campaign launched
Skin diseases such as Jock itch ( hadhad) and Ringworm ( buni), tuberculosis, human immunodeficiency virus or HIV and other communicable diseases can be transmitted at dental clinics. If unhygienic, that is. Such is the reason why J& T Dental Trading has recently launched its series of seminars on awareness campaign for dental health care.
“We are a major supplier of consumable dental products in the country,” said J& T Dental Trading owner Mercedes Geñorga, DMD.
“We specialize in quality dental products particularly endodontics, orthodontics, composites, anaesthetics, infection control, clinical and patient supplies.”
The seminar aims to introduce the latest trends and solutions in dental health care and clinical hygiene among dentists, medical practitioners and dentistry students. Highlighted in the seminar are topics related to infection control in dental clinics and surgical removal of impacted third molar.
Germiphene Corp.’s director of education Linda Mclarty talked about infection prevention and control in dental clinics. She emphasized the importance of proper hand washing. Accordingly, there are microorganisms that are susceptible to chemical disinfectants. Her advice is to clean and disinfect dental clinic before and after a patient is treated. Further, dentists should always wear gloves for protection and sanitize dental equipment for proper hygiene.
“Dentists must protect themselves first by getting the right education and training, immunization exposure, prevention and post exposure management and medical condition management,” Mclarty explained during the seminar.
Third molars, or commonly known as wisdom teeth, are the last molars to erupt and are located in the very back of the mouth.
Dental surgeon Dr. Mario Esquillo talked about the surgical removal of impacted third molar. Speaking of impaction, symptoms include stiffness or pain in the jaw, inflammation and infection of gum tissue and a partially erupted tooth that is painful or sensitive. Based on ethical guidelines, surgical extraction of third molars is undertaken when necessary.
