LINO AND EMMAN ACASIO: CAPTURING LOCAL COLOR
Lino Acasio and his son Emman are passionate about three things: their art, their environmental advocacy, and their love of family. For the Acasios, art is all in the family.
Lino Acasio is known for landscape images inspired by his hometown in Lemery, Batangas — verdant vegetation, lush green mountains and hills overlooking sparkling brooks and rivers. Locked within these landscapes are depictions of simple folk in their usual daily activities.
Acasio’s work is marked by precise rendition and composition, devotion to detail and experimentation with color. Through his art, Acasio hopes to instill a consistent advocacy of environmental preservation and management in the present generation.
His son Emman was born and raised in Lemery and got a scholarship at the University of Sto. Tomas where he received his BFA in 2005, cum laude. He was also the recipient of the Outstanding Thesis of the Year with his book illustration which tackled the distinct personality of each of the 17 regions of the Philippines.
Emman’s primary influence remains his father, although he gives his work a modern touch by depicting magnified details of still lifes, transformed into a “mythical island” and frequently populated by mostly anthropomorphized and evolved animals. Thus, Emman’s fictional landscapes may be reminiscent of childlike fantasies and dioramic scenarios, a world of alternate reality where fish fly and birds swim.
Both the works of father and son are known for their immense attention to detail and the ability to capture the local colors of the province.
