13 slain, found dead

At least 13 persons were killed or found dead in Metro Manila since Monday.

In Malabon, Alfredo Bautista and his wife Delia were shot along Sanchez street in Barangay Tenejeros at past 10 p.m. Monday.

Alfredo died on the way to the MCU Hospital while Delia was reported to be in critical condition yesterday.

Senior Superinten­dent John Chua, city police chief, said the victims’ family is looking at business rivalry as a motive for the attack. He did not say what business the victims ran.

In Makati City, Jonel Daniot, Rolly Rosauro and Karlo Karingal were shot dead by motorcycle- riding assailants while they were standing near a store Monday night.

In Pasay City, tricycle driver Jojo de Peña, 21, was shot dead by motorcycle- riding assailants near the intersecti­on of EDSA and Roxas Boulevard Monday night.

In Caloocan, two assailants wearing bonnets gunned down Jay Sanchez, 35, in front of a house on Sampaguita street in Barangay 17 Monday morning.

Sanchez was reportedly involved in the illegal drug trade in the neighborho­od.

Bodies

Three corpses were found in Pasay City and northern Metro Manila.

The bodies of two men were found at the corner of Diokno street and Macapagal Boulevard. Their heads were covered in plastic bags and packing tape. The victims’ hands were tied behind their back, also with packing tape.

In Navotas, the body of a man was found along Kanduli street in North Bay Boulevard South at past 4 a.m. yesterday.

Police said the man’s hands were tied behind his back and the victim died from gunshot wounds.

Probers recovered three sachets of shabu from the victim’s pocket.

Police operations

Also in Navotas, brothers Jhun- jun and Larry Umbao were shot dead in a drug sting before dawn yesterday.

The brothers, whose names were in the police drug watchlist, reportedly shot at police officers in Barangay Tumana, said city police chief Senior Superinten­dent Dante Novicio.

At around 10:30 p.m. Monday, Jay-R Gabuya was killed when he reportedly shot at police officers with an improvised shotgun while the lawmen were conducting Oplan Sita, an anti-crime drive, along Lapu-Lapu Avenue.

Two sachets of shabu were recovered from Gabuya, Novicio said.

In Quezon City, ex-convict Jayger Hechanova, who was released from prison a few months ago, was killed in an alleged shootout with police officers at his house on Roces street at around 1 a.m. yesterday.

Police said Hechanova reportedly used his house as a drug den after serving a fouryear sentence on drug charges.

Police officers were responding to reports that Hechanova was seen walking in the neighborho­od while carrying a handgun. – Rey Galupo, Perseus Echeminada, Romina Cabrera
