Solo brings back Pinoy comics in ‘Beerkada’ collection
Once again, Solo gives us a nostalgic dose of its Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia Series, which debuted in 2010. Year after year, Solo brings us back to the days when
komiks used to be huge part of Pinoy entertainment. Solo features Lyndon Gregorio’s Beerkada, a hilarious comic strip that revolves around a group of friends as they try to survive college and post-college life. Created by Lyndon Gregorio in 1998, it is still ongoing and serialized in The Philippine
STAR up to today. Inspired by Lyndon’s own college experience, you’ll meet the extremely relatable characters, from the torpe Glenn dela Costa, hopeless dreamer Alan Polantok, and resident babe Boopey Velenzuela, down to Bryan Strada, self-proclaimed “God’s gift to women” and many more interesting personalities that make Beerkada so entertaining to read. The hit comic series was inspired by college humor and geek culture.
Gregorio’s passion for comics started when he was a kid waiting for his dentist appointment. To pass the time, his mother rented a Funny Komiks from a nearby magazine shop. The adventures of StarBoy inspired him to start doodling, and the rest is history. When asked which comics influenced him, he cites PM Jr.’s
PugadBaboy (a past Solo Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia artist) and Dilbert by Scott Adams as the sparks that fed his hunger for creating Beerkada.
Through his writing, Lyndon aims to focus on the Pinoy experience — the everyday life of the Filipino and how they would react to classic and trending events. In the future, he plans to tackle subjects, genres and art movements that are still unaddressed by current creators. Aside from Beerkada, Lyndon is working on other stories, such as tributes to fantaseryes and apocalyptic tales.
Aside from this collaboration with Solo, which will be available in stores and online this November, he’ll be releasing his 15th Beerkada book at Komikon.
Solo’s fun and comical collection is composed of his and hers men’s and women’s casual wear with printed tees, polos, tank tops, blouses and shorts, all decked with amusingly drawn characters and comic-strip scenes translated into eye-catching and fun prints. The collection also includes cool gift items for the holidays.
