Loisa: Right timing matters

- — With reports from Almed Garcia and Julian Mauricio

It’s been years since Loisa Andalio joined Pinoy Big Brother All In.

Although she didn’t make it to the Big 4 — Loisa was evicted from the

Pinoy Big Brother house on Day 119, shortly before the Big 4 were chosen — she was still given as many chances to shine post-show as the ones who did make it. For instance, Loisa’s first project after her stint as a housemate was the TV remake of Ricky Lee’s 1986 film Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan

Kita. ( Pinoy Big Brother All In third placer Jane Oineza played her character’s older sister.) It was during Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan

Kita’s 10-month run that Loisa first met young actor Jerome Ponce, who played her character’s brother-in-law. They recently reunited on the set of Wansapanataym: Candy’s

Crush, but with one major difference: Jerome was now Loisa’s ka- love team, a change that took her by surprise.

“Actually, I was surprised. In our past shows, he played my big brother,” she said in an interview. “But I felt happy that I worked with him.”

Loisa revealed that she welcomed the opportunity to work with him again because it meant they’d be able to get to know each other more. She hoped to learn from him.

Jerome joined showbiz a full two years before Loisa did. She felt he could probably teach her a lot of things — which is exactly what he did when production on Wansapanataym: Candy’s Crush began. “We did scenes together and we shared the same tent,” Loisa shared. “During taping, he gave me advice. He was very helpful on what I needed to do.”

Having Jerome around to show her the ropes made Loisa more at ease on set, which enabled her to get a good handle on her character. It also helped that she didn’t have to stretch herself too much to play Candy.

“We enjoyed on the set. That’s why I had fun doing my character Candy. Candy and I were similar in a lot of ways. We dressed similarly. I had fun doing her character.”

Wansapanataym: Candy’s Crush was received warmly by viewers — even those who were fans of Loisa’s love team with her fellow Pinoy Big

Brother All In alum Joshua Garcia. The LoiShua tandem, as fans call it, has built a sizeable following. They’ve also proven to be a ratings draw, like when they did an episode of the drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya together. (It earned a 35.4 percent rating.) That’s why she was initially quite nervous about working with someone else.

But in the end, Loisa decided to just let go and trust management to do right by her. She also realized that agreeing to work with other young actors would serve her well, and that it wouldn’t necessarily spell the end for LoiShua. Loisa signed on for this installment of Wansapanataym, but she has also been playing in the daytime soap Be My Lady opposite Yves Flores.

“There is always a right time for everything. And LoiShua fans know that I can be paired with anyone while waiting for the right project for me and Joshua,” she explained.

Loisa has come a long way from the starry-eyed 10-year-old who wanted to be an actress. She’s still a dreamer, and for her, dreams do come true.
