Salcedo Auctions holds holiday sale + wish list
Salcedo Auctions will end the year with a two-part auction scheduled on Saturday, Nov. 26, starting with The Holiday Sale, which features over 400 lots of fine art, furniture and antiques, sterling silver, French porcelain, rare books and maps, jewelry and timepieces.
At 5 p.m. there’s The Wish List, a tightly curated selection by Salcedo’s specialist experts of important Philippine art such as Vicente Manansala’s “Mother and Child,” a large 33 x 39 1/2 inch 1980 oil on canvas, arguably the most significant work by the National Artist to come to the market in recent years; and National Artist HR Ocampo’s iconic “Homage to Emilio Jacinto,” 1977, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches. Both masterworks trace their provenance to the late Bessie Legarda.
Other items included in this sale include rare Philippine hardwood furniture, 19th-century European porcelain, significant Philippine tribal and ethnographic art, investment-quality diamond and colored gemstone jewelry, and toys for the big boys, including rare timepieces such as a 1970s collectible Rolex Red Submariner Ref. 1680/ 0, an Omega Speedmaster “Ed White” Ref. 105.003 circa 1964, and two vintage Patek Philippe Calatravas from the 1940s and 1950s, vintage automobiles including a 1964 Type 1 North American edition Volkswagen Beetle, a multi-awarded 1962 Morris Mini “Woody” Traveler Mk.1 and very collectible motorbikes such as a museum piece 1950 BMW R51/2 that has a mileage of only 50 kilometers.
