Cases of violence against children in the Philippines are rampant, preliminary findings of the National Baseline Study on Violence Against Children (NBS-VAC) show.

Based on the findings, three of every five children experience physical violence at home; two in five psychological violence at home; one in 10, sexual violence at home; and one in five, physical violence in school.

One in four Filipino children suffering from online abuse is exposed to sexually explicit content, while one in two Filipino children experiences online abuse, the findings further showed.

The NBS-VAC survey was headed by Bernadette Madrid of the University of the Philippines-Manila Child Protection Unit and was completed in 2015.

The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) said it would formally launch the NBS-VAC on Dec. 6 at the Manila Hotel, wherein they would present the national survey results and seek the commitment of government, non-government organizations and other stakeholders to participate in and support the campaign to end violence against children in the Philippines.
