How a pillow can change your life
Outside the Spinal Care Chiropractic clinic at the Bonifacio Global City, patients wait for their turn to be seen by Dr. Daniel Su, the only Gonstead Chiropractor in the Philippines. Five years ago, he settled in the Philippines and opened a clinic in 2013.
“Initially, patients come to us with back issues but later they are surprised to find out that they have other concerns like nerves, and other health problems. It’s all covered by chiropractic medicine because they have something to do with the nervous system. It deals with the nerves and the spinal cord,” explains Dr. Su. “Even babies, for instance, get checked all the time by a chiropractor to resolve issues such as colic, constipation and difficulty feeding.
Chiropractic treatment mainly involves correcting misalignments in the body by hand. Migraine and headaches are usually symptoms that something is not right with the central nervous system.
To identify where the pain is coming from, Dr. Su uses a technique called Gonstead, which starts with an X-ray of the patient before performing any adjustments in the body.
Along with therapy, Dr. Su says that sleep plays an important role in the patient’s healing process. For Dr. Su, a good pillow and mattress go together with quality sleep. “If you have back issues and you don’t have a good bed, you’ll definitely find that your spine is not well-supported. So even if you go for checkups, the pain will keep coming back.”
