NTC, HLURB tackle cell site construction woes
The National Telecommunications Commission and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board met recently to address issues that hamper construction of cellular sites inside private subdivisions.
Both the NTC and the HLURB were in agreement that building more cellular sites was necessary for the public to experience faster internet speed and better mobile connectivity.
The continued resistance of homeowners associations to grant telcos the permission to build cellular sites within their villages, has slowed down efforts to implement infrastructure roll-out plans.
Smart Communications Inc. has submitted to the Committee on Legislative Franchises of the House of Representatives a list of 100 subdivisions that do not allow the building of cell sites in their areas.
Among the villages identified by Smart in Metro Manila were the Alabang Hills, Ayala Alabang, Greenmeadows, Loyola Grand Villas, Xavierville, Valle Verde, White Plains, St. Ignatius, McKinley Hills, One McKinley Place, BF Homes, Better Living, Bel-Air, Dasmarinas, Forbes Park, Multinational, Capitol Hills, Ferndale, Corinthian Gardens, Montgomery Place, North Greenhills, Xavierville, Horseshoe, Phil-Am Homes, Tierra Pura, Filinvest Homes and Hillsborough.
Similarly, Globe Telecom Inc. informed the NTC of several villages which had rejected outright their request to build additional facilities within their premises, including Bel- Air, Corinthian Gardens, Dasmarinas Village, North Greenhills, Greenmeadows, New Manila, BF Resort, BF Homes, BF Almanza, Moonwalk, Philamlife, Horeshoe, Greenwood Executive, Better Living, Tahanan and St. Ignatius.
