Rody’s tugboat runs out of gas

- Christina Mendez

President Duterte was three minutes late for the launch of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) business and investment program at Malacañang yesterday because he commuted across the Pasig River.

Duterte, who lives in Bahay Pangarap at Malacañang Park, was in a tugboat on the way to Rizal Hall when the boat ran out of gas.

“We ran out of gas halfway, that’s why I’m late. I do not live in this building. I live on the other side of the river and I commute to and from in a tugboat everyday,” Duterte said, eliciting laughter from the representatives of ASEAN member-states, members of the diplomatic corps, Cabinet members and businessmen.

Among those who attended the event were former president and now House Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez and presidential adviser on entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion. –
