Dirty makeup brushes, the enemy of clear, great skin

-

DEAR RISSA,

I just bought my first set of makeup brushes. But to be honest, it feels like a chore to wash or clean them all the time. How important is it to have clean brushes anyway? JOYCE

Clean makeup brushes are an often overlooked ally to clear, great skin. A dirty makeup brush is not only unhygienic, it is also likely to worsen or cause more breakouts, rashes, and other irritations. Truth is, clean brushes are also the secret to a flawless makeup look.

You should always clean your makeup brushes as they almost always have a buildup of makeup, oil, and bacteria. It’s best to give them a frequent wash every two weeks especially if your skin is oily, if you use multiple colors of a product, or if you switch from products with powders to those that are cream-based. It also helps to wipe off excess color and powder by sweeping the brushes against a clean paper towel or tissue after every use. This helps avoid product and bacteria buildup.

There are a lot of makeup brush cleaners and solutions on the market. But always make sure to look for one that also cares for your skin. Tea Tree Oil is a good ingredient to look out for because of its disinfecting powers. It helps keep germs at bay so you can look your best without worrying about bacteria.

Clean brushes don’t just help you get clearer skin, they help achieve streak- free, flawless makeup application, too. RISSA
