Style identity
In this age of “nowness,” fashion individuality defines contemporary dressing. Gone are the days when people had to be on trend to be fashionable. The world of style has evolved, times have changed, rules and parameters are now undefined. Trends and forecasts are no longer a dictation or a rule — they have become insights to one’s personal fashion.
This personal fashion movement has evidently brought about a huge range of clothing — from high-end designer brands to mass retail — available for every one of different shapes and sizes. Season after season, fashion’s past, more often than not, brings a structured and formulated direction or mold for the world to follow. The now, however, is all about the persona and can be influenced by a plethora of fashion styles.
For Spring/Summer 2017, one iconic brand has joined the bandwagon in celebrating individual style — Gap. This season, the classic American clothing brand presents “I am Gap,” a campaign that promotes fashion individuality, gender equality and style possibilities that cater to all generations. The latest collection reveals the same form, mood and color palette for both women’s wear and menswear. The general silhouette is slim fitting as seen on denims (in a variety of washes and fabrication, trousers for men and leggings for women).
Masculine and classic hues define a gender-neutral palette such as blue, beige, white, fatigue, khaki and black. The feel is displayed through easy and relaxed fabrication that defines the effortlessness of style. There is no overall singular look or statement, the idea is to be able to create a wardrobe full of mix-and-match pieces to create several personal styles.
Fashion is a form of self-expression and should be expressed freely. This enables one to explore the infinite possibilities of style. Whether a personal signature or a chameleon of looks, these are reflections of who we are. That’s our style identity.
