100 PAL flights cancelled due to radar shutdown

- By LOUELLA DESIDERIO

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is cancelling 100 flights as the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) shuts down the Tagaytay radar from March 6 to 11 for maintenance works.

The Tagaytay radar directs incoming flights from all over the world toward the radar of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.

“We apologize for any inconvenience as PAL continues to support our government’s drive to make air travel safe, secure and seamless for all our passengers,” PAL said in a statement yesterday.

While the Tagaytay radar is undergoing maintenance, the two other radars in Cebu and in Laoag would remain operational.

The CAAP earlier met with airlines to announce the maintenance works for the Tagaytay radar and advised passengers to coordinate with airlines for flight changes.

PAL said passengers of the affected flights may opt to rebook their tickets within 30 days from original date of departure without penalty.

Passengers may also choose to refund their ticket in full or to re- route to the nearest point within PAL’s network.

To avail of any of the options and get an update on the latest flight schedules, passengers may call the PAL Hotline (02) 855-8888.

They may also go to the nearest PAL ticket office or travel agent who facilitated the issuance of their ticket, or send an email to wecare@pal.com.ph.
