- DANNY DOLOR

During the pre-war and postwar years, one of the more popular magazines in Tagalog was Bulaklak (Hiyas ng Tahanan), with Jose Santos as patnugot (editor) and Francisco Guballa as taga-pamahalang pangkalahatan (general manager).

Bulaklak featured short stories, home and décor tips, komiks, movies, songhits, poetry.

It boasts of such novelists as Ladislao Bella Subang, Fausto Galauran and Jose Santos. And top cartoonists like Mars Ravelo and Elpido Torres, who also became famous writers. The three 1948 issues of Bulaklak featured on the cover movies produced by the top three studios: Hindi Kita Malimot (Sampaguita), Tanikalang Papel (LVN) and Ako Raw Ay Huk (Premiere).

In the ‘60s, Bulaklak changed ownership several times and eventually ceased publication in the ’70s.
