Rom Villaseran illuminates mental landscapes with 'Ilaw ng Buwan'

-

Rom Villaseran recreates mental exploration on his canvases with a uniquely free-spirited artistic technique. In his newest solo exhibit,

“Ilaw ng Buwan,” Rom crafts a series that explores internal mental landscapes, as opposed to the surreal parallel universes he has come to be known for.

The “Ilaw ng Buwan” series is a way for Rom to cope with happenings in his life, and is crucial in coming to terms with his “faulty mental wiring,” as he calls it.

“This is probably the one time I’m going to do this. It’s too taxing for me,” Rom confesses. To look past this show’s aesthetic facade is to look unabashedly into the depths of a person’s lowest point. It is not all beautiful, yet not all painful either. Rom skillfully and precariously balances on the edge of a knife in order to present a breathtaking outpouring of human experience. The craft of his mind’s eye allows him to illuminate the depths of the human heart.

“Ilaw ng Buwan” opens tomorrow at the pop- up gallery space of Galerie Stephanie, ground floor of 8 Rockwell Building, Rockwell Center, Makati City. It will be on view until Feb. 28, after which it will be moved to Galerie Stephanie at Unit 1B Parc Plaza Building, 183 E. Rodriguez Jr. Ave., Libis, Quezon City from March 2 to 12. For inquiries, call Galerie Stephanie at 709-1488 or email inquiry.galeriestephanie@gmail.com.
