Sulu to benefit from SM Foundation, Harbest farmers training

Some 190 participan­ts from the different municipali­ties of Sulu joined SM Foundation representa­tives led by AVP for livelihood and outreach programs Cristie Angeles in the orientatio­n of SM’s Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan (KSK) Rural Farmers’ Training Program.

Harbest Agribusine­ss Corp., a program partner of SM Foundation in its farmers’ training program was represente­d by its president Arsenio Barcelona who spoke about the dual- tech training program.

KSK training involves 12 weekly sessions onsite.

Participan­ts are taught land preparatio­n, including soil preparatio­n and making of plots, aside from the use of organic fertilizer­s, proper seeding technology and even irrigation.

They also undergo values formation and taught the rudiments of accounting to prepare them to be entreprene­urs in the future.

Like previous training programs, participan­ts will be given lessons on market linkages for them to be able to market their produce at the best price possible.

SM Foundation’s KSK Agri-Training and Capacity Building program is among the developmen­t programs introduced in Sulu in line with Go Negosyo Para Sa Kapayapaan Sa Sulu.

Go Negosyo Para Sa Kapayapaan Sa Sulu is an initiative aimed to bring peace and socio-economic developmen­t in the area. It encourages the help of the private sectors who can provide livelihood programs, technical skills training, housing projects, mentorship, facilities and infrastruc­ture.
