Manila condemns terror attack in London

The Philippine government condemned yesterday the terrorist attack outside the British Parliament that killed at least five people last Wednesday.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Philippine­s stands in solidarity with the United Kingdom in the wake of the tragedy.

“We join the United Kingdom and her people in mourning the loss of innocent lives and pray for the immediate recovery of the victims injured by this heinous attack,” the agency said.

“There is no justificat­ion for the horror and barbarity perpetrate­d by these elements,” it said.

While the nationalit­ies of the victims are not yet available, the DFA noted that the Philippine embassy in London is closely monitoring the situation and is in touch with the Filipino community there.

On Thursday, DFA spokesman Charles Jose said there were no reports of any Filipino directly affected by the incident.

The embassy, however, advised Filipinos in London to remain vigilant and monitor local security advisories.

The so-called Islamic State group has said it was behind the attack.
