48 ‘undisciplined’ cops undergo retraining

- By NON ALQUITRAN

At least 48 erring police officers from the National Capital Region Police Office yesterday started an intensive disciplinary training and reorientation program as part of the NCRPO’s plan to rid its ranks of scalawags.

The police officers are facing administrative charges on minor offenses ranging from tardiness, texting while on duty, not being in proper uniform and hiding in a corner instead of being visible while on duty.

They will be restricted to Camp Bagong Diwa until they complete the 15-day training period, NCRPO chief Director Oscar Albayalde said.

“They were cautioned for their lapses while on duty. The disciplinary training program seeks to instill discipline and build ethics, assess their commitment level to their sworn duties and also teach financial management to strengthen their financial capacity,” he said.

Albayalde said the Philippine National Police (PNP) has long been struggling with the problem of undisciplined police officers.

“This is disappointing, and I swear that under my leadership, I will not allow these bad eggs to influence others nor continue their habits of destroying the image of good policemen. It is about time to look at this problem on a perspective where we can help the police rebuild their life and become better public servants,” he said.

Albayalde said the disciplinary training program is the best opportunity for police officers who committed less grave offenses to improve themselves and deepen their commitment to the PNP.
