In a continuous effort to improve water sanitation and industrial wastewater treatment and purification in the country, the fourth edition of Water Philippines 2017 was recently held at the SMX Convention Center last March 22 to 24 with key players in the industry presenting an overview of the newest water supply, sanitation, sewerage and wastewater trends, technologies and innovations.

As the country’s water market continues to develop rapidly, UBM Exhibitions Philippines president M. Gandhi said Water Philippines would like to help the community develop the best practices on water sanitation and management while also helping the industry to be more lucrative.

“The Philippines’ water industry is very dynamic. There is especially a lot of effort from local governments to improve. In fact, Global Water Intelligence Reports indicate an approximately 7.7-percent growth on the country’s water and wastewater capital expenditures until next year. Meanwhile, 85 percent of the Philippines’ water demand is for agriculture, with industrial and domestic sectors with the second highest usage,” he said.

This year, Water Philippines gathered around 8,500 quality trade visitors from 27 countries, including top practitioners, industry professionals and thought leaders in the water and wastewater industry. Meanwhile, over 380 participating exhibitors from 20 countries including eight international and regional pavilions from China, Germany, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the USA presented a complete overview of their products, technology and innovations over the course of the trade fair.

“The public has realized the significance of water and many are ready to pay for water. As a result, Water Philippines has definitely grown in size. This time we are 30 percent more bigger and with almost 40 percent more visitors compared to our previous installment,” Gandhi said.

Coinciding with the annual UN World Water Day, Water Philippines 2017 was co-located with four specialized events particularly Pumps and Valves, Pipes and Tubings, and the first installment of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE EE) Philippines 2017.

Tagged as Asia’s Leading Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Exhibition, RE EE Philippines 2017 provided local and international renewable energy companies with the platform to showcase their state-of-the-art technology that harnesses solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy, geothermal energy and biomass and biofuel. Utilizing energy effectively plays a significant role in the country’s eco-landscape and intends to empower future renewable energy solutions by promoting awareness.

“The Philippines has always had access to vast and diverse renewable sources of energy. These can be explored to produce clean, harmless and stable power to provide to commercial and residential users alike,” Gandhi said. “With access to continuous sunlight throughout the year, we can see the growth of a lot of solar farm installations. The country is also the second-largest producer of geothermal energy in the world next to the US.”

For both Water Philippines and RE EE 2017, expert speakers from local and international sectors like International Water Association, Philippine Water Works Association and PUB Singapore’s National Water agency, together with the Renewable Energy Association of the Philippines and Thailand’s Department of Energy had the opportunity to share their expertise on the subject matters at hand.
