AdU annexes 7th straight s’ball title

-

Adamson maintained its lofty position as queens of UAAP softball after completing its drive to a seven-peat and 16th overall championship.

Lyca Basa pitched a threehitter and struck out eight batters as the Lady Falcons posted a title-clinging 3-1 win over injury-hit Santo Tomas in Game Two of the Season 79 finals yesterday at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Lady Falcons previously won Game One of the title series, 9-2.

“Throughout the season, we always considered every opponent tough so it draws the best from us,” said AdU coach Ana Santiago, who won her 10th diadem in the league.

The AdU softbelles got the scoreboard first with an error- aided run in the second inning. Nichole Padasas drove in Dely Covarruvias with her base hit to double the lead in the fourth.

The Tigresses inched closer with Cristy Roa’s run-scoring triple in the bottom fourth but that turned out to be their last stand.

Covarruvias restored AdU’s two-run lead by batting in Angelie Ursabia in the top seventh before Basa finished off UST’s threat in the bottom frame.

Basa was adjudged finals MVP and joined teammate Ursabia, the Season MVP, in the honor roll.

The Tigresses clearly missed the solid presence of Best Pitcher Ann Antolihao, who suffered an ACL injury back in Game One.
