McDonald’s 1st quick-service resto compliant with labor standards
McDonald’s Philippines (Golden Arches Development Corp.) was recently awarded with Certificates of Compliance (COC) by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for compliance with General Labor Standards and Occupational Safety and Health Standards for all its restaurants in the National Capital Region (NCR).
As the first quick-service restaurant chain in the Philippines to be given COCs under the Duterte administration, McDonald’s hopes to continually be the government’s partner in growth by ensuring quality standards are met when it comes to the condition of work premises, observance of required health and safety programs, and compliance with contracting and subcontracting regulations.
“My father, George Yang, has taught me the importance of people and the responsibility of making a positive influence in their lives. At McDonald’s, it is important that we provide our employees with world-class training and other learning opportunities for their personal development,” Kenneth Yang, McDonald’s president and chief executive officer said.
Since the establishment of its first store in 1981, McDonald’s has hired regular employees for its permanent and part-time positions. The chain also established itself as one of the biggest employers of students through programs like JobStart and Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), which provide students with skills training and the opportunity to be absorbed as McDonald’s employees later on.
McDonald’s currently has over 50,000 regular employees nationwide, all of whom receive government mandated and company benefits.
McDonald’s also seeks to continue expansion plans this year, with close to 50 new stores totalling an additional 5,000 employment opportunities.
“The reason why we have made it this far is because of the hard work and dedication of every restaurant team member. It is an honor to be part of a company that is 100 percent compliant and embodies the true meaning of excellent service,” said Chona Torre, McDonald’s Philippines vice president for human capital Group said.
