ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two Abu Sayyaf bandits surrendered in Patikul, Sulu on Thursday.

Husain Nasirin, 22, a resident of Sitio Darayan in Barangay Buhanginan, and Hasir Asara, 24, of Sitio Kankitap, Barangay Danag also turned over their rifles, said Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Task Force Sulu commander.

The bandits are members of the group led by Hairulla Asbang, who died while being treated in a hospital for gunshot wounds he sustained in a recent encounter with government troops.

Asbang was tagged in the kidnapping of Canadians John Ridsdel and Robert Hall, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad and Filipina Marites Flor at a resort on Samal island in 2015. The two Canadians were beheaded for failing to pay ransom of P300 million each. Sekkingstad and Flor were freed reportedly after payment of ransom.
