COZY INTERIORS WITH PHOENIX HOME
Manila has become a vibrant place in terms of home design and furnishing. Interior designer Nix Alanon gives us a glimpse inside the showroom of Phoenix Home, where hip, stylish and functional come alive to create the perfect home.
Nix, a graduate of Philippine Interior Design Manila who interned for multi-awarded interior design icon Vicente Wolf in New York, showed Steph the Philippine-made furniture pieces on display at Phoenix Home. He also shared the vast collection of items on display, from small accessories, furnishings to candles and home scents. Nix shared some useful tips on designing one’s home, beginning with the use of interesting shades and palettes to create distinct themes and vibes. He also discussed how to properly mix and match home accents to achieve a certain ambience, as well as choosing furniture pieces with unique shapes and designs. Finally, Nix also stated how he manages to take inspiration from fellow creative geniuses and how even a little tweak can make a piece of furniture more interesting.
FUN NEST: FUN PLAYTHINGS FOR THE LITTLE ONE
One of the best things about having a baby is honestly, buying and getting all these cute things for them. Bianca gets help from Audrey Pastelero of Fun Nest in creating fun, safe and physically and mentally stimulating play spaces for the little ones.
Before Fun Nest, Audrey ventured into creating these wonderful baby furniture and accessories because she couldn’t find anything that suits her taste online. Soon, friends and colleagues asked her to make teepees and stuffed animals for their kids. Now a new mommy, she shares how her excitement in making her kid’s room turned into creative bits and pieces that eventually spawned Fun Nest. At first, Audrey started making different things and then arranged them in a photo shoot that she later showed her friends. Audrey wasn’t really keen on making a full-fledged business out of her creations, but eventually her friends convinced her to sell some of her crafts. Today, Fun Nest has a growing collection of adorable baby furniture and accessories, including the now very popular teepee.

ENCHANTING LOCAL BREWS AT ENGKANTO BREWERY
Trying to define craft beer is a difficult task, as beer can be a very subjective and personal experience. For those looking for a refreshing take on the drink, a new local brewery is now making an interesting variety of local craft beer that is specially brewed for Filipinos.
Enter Engkanto Brewery, an emerging local brewery established by Ian Paradies and brewmaster Josh Karten. A self-confessed beer lover, Ian badly wanted to make his own but did not know how, until he bumped into Josh a brew master who knew the techincal aspects of making brews. Wanting to make something unique, the pair decided on fruit-based beers based on
dalandan and mango. The duo also explained the important processes involved in brewing beer, as well as the machinery and technology used for each step. This new generation of beer enthusiasts observed that beer was the one thing that all Filipinos still adored daily. Engkanto Brewery recreated perfect flavors so that Filipinos can finally drink the magic of Engkanto.
