PNP camp to evict 120 families
Around 120 informal settler families will be affected by the development of a police camp in Quezon City by early next year.
The families, who have been occupying the lot for almost decades, are set to be evicted from the 1.8-hectare Camp Panopio of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Barangay Kaunlaran.
The Local Interagency Consultative Committee, composed of the Quezon City government, local police, the National Housing Authority and other agencies, signed on Friday a memorandum of agreement to expedite the clearing of the property.
Director Ed Madamba of the city government’s housing and resettlement department said they are coordinating the transfer of the illegal settlers with the concerned agencies.
The PNP allocated a total of P247 million for the development of the camp, which houses the Cubao police station and a hospital.
A medical plaza and housing for police officers will be built in the compound.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City Police District director, said this will serve as a template for the PNP on how to go about the development of other camps that also have illegal settlers.
