Carmen Rosales’ partners in ’49

Three of Carmen Rosales’ starrers in 1949 had different partners. They were LVN’s Camelia and Ang Sipag ay Yaman, both directed by Susana de Guzman, and PAR’s Carmencita Mia, written and directed by Paquito Bolero.

Rogelio dela Rosa was Carmen’s leading man in Camelia, billed as Ang obra maestra ng LVN halaw sa La

Dama de las Camelias. Carmen was most identified with Rogelio. Jose Padilla Jr. was her partner in Ang

Sipag ay Yaman. In 1953, Carmen and Jose won FAMAS awards. She was Best Actress for Inspirasyo­n and he Best Actor for Huk sa Bagong Pamumuhay.

Fernando Poe was Carmen’s novio in the Mexican-inspired Carmencita Mia. Poe died in the early ‘50s, but he left behind many other movies he starred in, wrote, produced and directed. Poe is the father of the King of Philippine Cinema and National Artist Fernando Poe Jr.
