MPIC to resubmit P50 B C-5 overhead expressway proposal

The tollway arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) intends to resubmit to the government a proposal to build a P50 billion overhead expressway along C-5.

Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. president and chief executive officer Rodrigo Franco told reporters the firm would resubmit the proposal to build an elevated expressway along C-5, linking Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City to the southern part of Manila.

“We submitted to the Toll Regulatory Board before. But their request, they told us, to resubmit to DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways),” he said.

He said the firm is looking to resubmit the proposal sometime in July.

For the submission, he said MPTC would have to refine the study for the project, as well as revise the engineering design.

The proposal seeks to connect C-5 to the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX) which is also under MPIC.

Earlier, Franco said the proposed elevated expressway project could be implemented over a period of four years.

Aside from Cavitex, MPIC also operates other tollways such as the North Luzon Expressway and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway. It is also building other toll road projects. Last week, it broke ground to start construction works for the Laguna segment of the 45-kilometer (km) Cavite-Laguna Expressway linking CAVITEX and South Luzon Expressway.
