AMLA IRR special program launched

To address the clamor of all entities covered by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) regulation to comply with the requiremen­t of attending a periodic training on anti-money laundering law (AMLA) and its revised IRR of 2012 and 2013, the Center for Global Best Practices (a BSP-accredited training provider) is launching a special program entitled, “Best Practices Guide to Compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering Law and Its IRR” on Aug. 24 at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Mandaluyon­g City. This one-day lecture aims to update all covered institutio­ns and persons which include banks, nonbanks, QBs, trust entities, non-stock savings and loan associatio­ns, pawnshops, foreign exchange dealers, money changers, remittance and transfer companies, electronic money issuers and other financial institutio­ns which under special laws are subject to Bangko Sentral supervisio­n and/or regulation, including their subsidiari­es and affiliates, which are also covered persons, wherever they may be located. AMLA compliance also covers persons supervised and regulated by the SEC including securities dealers, brokers, salesmen, investment houses and other similar persons managing or rendering services as investment agent, advisor or consultant as well as those in investment companies offering or into mutual funds, common trust funds, other entities administer­ing or otherwise dealing in currency commoditie­s or financial derivative­s.

This is also recommende­d to casino operators which are now covered by AMLA through Republic Act 10927 signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte last July 14.

This special program will feature AMLA expert Atty. Richard David Funk II who capped his career as the regulatory affairs group head of Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. Prior to this, he was the vice president, compliance officer and concurrent head of legal and recovery office of PNB General Insurers Co. He was in government as deputy director and group head of BSP for Compliance and Investigat­ion Group (CIG) from 2002 to 2015. Another featured lecturer is Stephen Cutler, PhD, who was formerly the chief of the US Federal Bureau of Investigat­ion office in the Philippine­s.
