Deadline for UPCAT application extended
The University of the Philippines has extended the deadline for application for the upcoming UP College Admission Test.
“UPCAT applications have been extended up to Sept. 1 without penalty fees for all applicants,” the university’s Office of Admissions said in an announcement on its Facebook page.
UP initially set the application deadline for private schools in Metro Manila yesterday, while it was supposed to be on Aug. 25 for Metro Manila public schools. Deadline for other schools is on Sept. 1.
With the adjustment, the university said late application fees will apply for all schools after the new deadline.
The next UPCAT will be held on Oct. 21 and 22 in various testing centers across the country.
The university returned to the two-day exam schedule this year to accommodate the expected influx of prospective senior high school graduates next year.
UP earlier said that its admissions process is currently undergoing review to level the playing field among applicants.
“While admission into the UP System is very selective with an acceptance rate of 15-17 percent for the best and brightest freshmen, UP also takes affirmative steps in its admission process to enhance the access of disadvantaged students to high quality education,” the university said.
“The UPCAT consists of four subtests: Language Proficiency (English and Filipino), Science, Math and Reading Comprehension (English and Filipino). Standardized UPCAT scores are combined with the weighted average of three years of high school final grades to determine the UP admission grade,” it added.
UP offers more than 170 programs in its eight constituent universities in Diliman (with an extension program in Pampanga), Baguio, Los Baños, Manila (with Schools of Health Sciences in Baler, Palo and Koronadal), Visayas (with campuses in Iloilo/Miagao and Tacloban), Cebu, UP Mindanao and the Open University.
