Pinoy students harvest gold, silver in Int’l Junior Math Olympiad
The 12-member Philippine team came home with a sweep of 10 gold and two silver medals from the International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last Aug. 12. These contestants were already gold medal winners of the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) in their respective grade levels, which qualified them to compete in the 12-nation olympiad.
The gold winners are: Ellison Matthew Ang and Justine Aaron Co, Grade 2, St. Jude Catholic School; Kristner Sheyn Saludo, Grade 3, San Beda College Alabang; Michael Gerard Tongson, Gr 3 and Gadriel Symone Dalangin, Gr 4, Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat; Renzterton Sibal, Gr 5, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong; Juan Anton Olpindo, Gr 6, Pasig Catholic College; Jhervey Edric Cheng, Gr. 9, Chiang Kai Shek College; Andres Rico Gonzales III, Gr 9, Colegio De San Juan De Letran, and Gabriel Joseph Pua, Gr 10, St. Stephen’s High School.
The silver winners are: Immanuel Quinto, Gr. 2, De La Salle Lipa Integrated School, and Iris Lexi Ababon, Gr 3, Colegio San Agustin-Makati.
The IJMO was organized by STEM Education Organization for Cambodia, Singapore and Asian City Schools Math Olympiad, supported by the Ministry of Education-Youth and Sports Cambodia and the Cambodian Mathematical Society. The Philippine participation in IJMO was facilitated by the Asian MathSci League Inc. (AMSLI), in coordination with the Department of Education and the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute.
