Storm signal No. 1 up in 3 provinces

The low-pressure area monitored by the weather bureau over Virac, Catanduane­s developed yesterday into Tropical Depression Jolina.

Storm signal No. 1 has been raised over southern Cagayan, Isabela and northern Aurora.

At 5 p.m. yesterday, the center of Jolina was estimated at 540 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometer per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph.

It is forecast to move westnorthw­est at 17 kph, the Philippine Atmospheri­c, Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Services Administra­tion (PAGASA) said.

PAGASA said estimated rainfall amount is from moder- ate to heavy within the 300 km diameter of the storm.

“It is expected to further intensify before making landfall over Northern Luzon tonight or early morning tomorrow.”

The weather bureau also noted in its weather bulletin that the southwest monsoon will continue to affect the western section of Luzon.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and possible occasional­ly heavy rains, gusty winds and lightning due to thundersto­rms.

PAGASA added that partly cloudy to cloudy skies except for isolated light to occasional­ly heavy rains, gusty winds and lightning will prevail over the rest of the country.
