The 2017 Teen Choice Awards winners
The big news of the evening was that Miley Cyrus, this year’s Ultimate Choice awardee could not show up because of what she called an “unrealistic schedule, ” which she set herself. Miley is the past winner of 18 Teen Choice trophies, which means she has 18 Teen Choice surfboards she needs storage for.
The Teen Choice Awards gives out surfboards instead of the usual trophies because surfboards mean summer fun and the Teen Choice Awards is traditionally held annually in the summer. It is now 18 years old which means that Miley was winning almost every year or more than once in others.
Well, show up or not, Miley still got her 19th surfboard this year. Her fans may have felt bad that she was not there to perform but the audience at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California for the 2017 Teen Choice Awards last Aug. 13 did not really seem to mind her absence. Why should they as they had more than enough star power to feast their eyes on.
Chris Pratt, Choice Sci-fi Movie Actor for Guardians of the Galaxy, was there, a few days after it was announced that he and wife Anna Faris had separated; ex-One Direction Louis Tomlinson who looked dashing and even performed with Bebe Rexha; Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris who is turning out to be a beauty; Adam Levine who came with Maroon 5 bandmate James Valentine; the Fifth Harmony, which is now only four.
Zendaya, Summer Movie Actress and Breakout Movie Star winner in striped pajamas; Victoria Justice, stunning in white; Naya Rivera in head-to-toe denim, Bella Thorne in black; Katherine Langford, star of Thirteen
Reasons Why; Zara Larrson who did a number with Clean Bandit; actor Anthony Anderson; the cast of Riverdale led by KJ Apa; and so many others. Host of the evening was Logan Paul, who was named Choice Male Web Star and Choice Comedy Web Star.
But, of course, I save the special mentions for the music awards which this year boasted of an excellent batch. Maroon 5 was conferred the Decade Award; Bruno Mars got the Visionary Award; and Vanessa Hudgens, star of the High School Musical series of films from Disney, got the first-ever See Her Award.
Now 28 years old and looking more beautiful than ever, Vanessa asked teens to not be afraid to be different for God made you for a reason. “Embrace the weirdness,” she said.
The Teen Choice Awards honors achievements in film, music, television, sports, fashion, comedy and the Internet.
