-

The Philippines, with Jacob Ang at the helm, swept the major titles disputed in Phl leg of the Petron Tri-Activ Asian Karting Open Championships at the Carmona Racetrack in Carmona, Cavite recently.

Ang, of Eagle Cement-Petron Racing Team, dominated the qualifying heat, the pre-final and final races to rule the Formula 125 Open Senior and X30 Senior division of the annual series sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and the world governing Commission Internationale de KartingFédération Internationale de l’Automobile (CIK-FIA).

He completed the 28-lap final race in 20 minutes, 48.572 seconds, 5.747 seconds ahead of overall runner-up Japanese ace Takaharu Nakamori of Apex Racing.

John Dizon of Edgesport Racing placed third while Chinese bets Yan Liang and Zheng Haopeng ended up fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 6, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, Magnolia Pure Water and Yokohama the official tires.

The win also atoned for Ang’s setback last year where his sweep bid fizzled out due to mechanical trouble, enabling Chinese Zhang Haopeng of Mars Racing to snare the Asian Karting Phl leg crown.

He also dominated Nakamori and Dizon to clinch the X30 senior plum with Liang and Haopeng winding up fourth and fifth, respectively.

Completing the sweep of the major titles are Eduardo Coseteng Jr., who took the Formula 125 Open Junior and X30 Junior titles, and Zach David of VS Racing, who bagged the MiniROK crown.

Coseteng Jr. topped both the Formula 125 Open Junior and X30 Junior classes over Jarred Kim of Empire-Red Bull Racing and Dylan Arambulo of Edgesport Racing.

Malaysian Oscar Ng Kok Tung and Keon Romoff ended up third and fourth runnerup, respectively, in the Formula 125 Open Junior while Romoff finished fourth over Hong Kong’s Kyle Wong in the X30 Junior division.
