Airbus targets leadership in market for helicopters
Airbus Helicopters Philippines Inc. is looking to grow its market share to 60 percent in the next three years as it banks on opportunities in the tourism and emergency medical services (EMS) sectors.
“We are ambitious...In the next three years, we hope to be at 60 percent (market share). We think it is achievable,” Lionel de Maupeou, managing director at Airbus Helicopters Philippines said in a recent briefing.
The company presently accounts for 50 percent of Philippine market for helicopters.
He said the company expects the growth to be driven by opportunities in the tourism and EMS sectors.
The company is also hopeful it could participate in the military helicopter segment by providing its products and services to the local military.
It has held talks with the Department of National Defense to present products and services it could offer, but no purchase orders have been made by the government.
Fabrice Rochereau, head of sales for South East Asia and Pacific at Airbus Helicopters Southeast Asia Pte Ltd., said the Philippines is currently one of the most important markets for the company in the region because of growth opportunities.
“We believe there is more potential here,” he said.
Asked if Airbus has plans to make additional investments in the country, De Maupeou said it would depend on the growth of its market share.
