Drug suspect shot dead in Marikina

A suspected drug pusher was killed by four armed men after visiting the wake of a neighbor in Marikina City at dawn yesterday.

Michael Santos, 33, died before reaching the hospital.

Santos was on the drug watchlist of Barangay Fortune, Chief Superinten­dent Romulo Sapitula, director of the Eastern Police District, said.

Investigat­ion showed that Santos was on his way home after visiting the wake of a neighbor along Santan street in Barangay Fortune when the motorcycle-riding assailants blocked his path and opened fire at past 1 a.m.

Neighbors rushed Santos to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival from multiple gunshots to the body.

In Manila, police eyed illegal drugs as a possible motive for the killing of Delvish Tuazon, 40, on Saturday night.

Police Officer 2 Jonathan Ruiz said Tuazon was fixing the water pump of Domus Marie Condominiu­m in Sta. Ana when three mean wearing masks barged in and opened fire.

Anti-crime drive nets 367

Meanwhile, police rounded up 367 people during anticrime operations in Pasig and Marikina in the past two days.

According to Sapitula, police conducted the operations to rid the streets of criminals and violators of city ordinances.

Two persons were arrested for possession of illegal drugs, six for illegal gambling and 62 for drinking in public places.

Sapitula said the others were collared for violating the smoking ban and roaming in the streets half naked.

Members of the Marikina police rounded up 42 people for drinking in public places.
