La Union reading associatio­n empowers literacy leaders

Reading is rudimentar­y to literacy.

“If we don’t read, we will remain slaves of ignorance and nothingnes­s.” This was the throbbing thought that broke the silence of reading advocates of La Union.

Through the years, the Reading Associatio­n of the Philippine­s La Union Chapter has grown and spread its wings. Its aim to improve literacy growing alongside, it has produced empowered leaders of literacy.

Last Jul. 29, the new board of directors met at Rose Bowl Restaurant in Bauang, La Union.

Constancia Elizabeth Bello, founder, and incumbent president Dr. Maria Teresa Bautista presided over the meeting, which revolved around empowering leadership in the pursuit of the goals of the associatio­n.

The board of directors elected their top officers, who are supported by competent faculty members of the various prestigiou­s schools of La Union as board members.

Bello reported the status of the organizati­on, noting its accomplish­ments over the last three years.

Moreover, the new team carefully set a clear picture of the initiative­s and directions of the associatio­n. These include such activities as The Friendship Day Celebratio­n and Challenge, Creative Literacy Enhancemen­t, Parenting Literacy, Kuwentuhan sa Barangay and the Book Reading Enhancemen­t.
