Nakamori rules Petron karting

Japanese ace Takaharu Nakamori foiled John Dizon’s charge in the final round to capture the overall championsh­ip in the Petron X30 Karting Challenge Cup at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite recently.

Nakamori of Apex Racing held his ground against Dizon in the deciding sixth round, keeping the lead all throughout to frustrate the Edgesport Racing ace before pulling away in the succeeding laps to check in three seconds ahead of Dizon.

With the victory, the Japanese closed out the series with a total of 221 points, nine points ahead of Dizon to nail the X30 Karter of the Year crown.

Dizon actually rallied from 15 points down to within seven with a big charge in the fifth round, 184-177, reviving his title bid for the premiere X30 Senior Petron Blaze 100 class.

Eduardo Coseteng Jr. of Eagle Cement-Petron Racing Team shared the limelight as he clinched the Petron X30 Junior Karter of the Year plum in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Associatio­n Philippine­s and sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 5, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, Magnolia Pure Water and Yokohama the official tires.

Coseteng Jr. swept the pre-final and final races of both Rounds 5 and 6 to earn perfect 90 points in the final weekend to seal the crown with a total of 270.

Keon Romoff of VS Racing and Jarred Kim of Empire-Red Bull Racing tallied 159 and 137 points, respective­ly.
