Blue Dragons subdue Sea Lions with clutch hits

Diliman College banked on Joseph Brutas, Earl Salazar and Aldrin Ligon in the clutch as the Blue Dragons downed the Olivarez College Sea Lions, 65-58, yesterday in the Universiti­es and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 2 at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.

While import Adama Diakhite produced game-highs of 17 points, 18 rebounds and seven blocks, Brutas, Salazar and Ligon made key plays in the final quarter helping the Blue Dragons seize control of the game.

Brutas banged in six of his 16 points in the fourth while Salazar and Ligon combined for nine points and provided hustle plays as Diliman College racked up its second straight win and fourth overall in five starts for solo third.

In the other game, Technologi­cal Institute of the Philippine­s put on the heat in the third quarter and fashioned out an 83-68 victory over Lyceum-Batangas.

Jorey Napoles produced a near double-double of 16 points and nine rebounds while Tevita Latu and Joseph Daguro combined for 32 points, 14 of them coming in their third-quarter attack where the Engineers outscored the Pirates 28-9. TIP tied Olivarez at 2-3. Paulo Castro had 10 points while Richmon Sunga and Jayboy Solis combined for 15 points for the Sea Lions, who dropped to 2-3.

Olivarez College pounced on the 6-9 Diakhite’s sidelining in the fourth due to cramps as Chris Lalata scored four quick points, highlighte­d by a twohanded dunk, as the Sea Lions surged ahead at 49-48.
