The art of pink transformsThe Peninsula Manila into a supporter in the fight against breast cancer

-

The Peninsula Manila is again thinking pink with a purpose this October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Marking its seventh anniversary in 2017 the annual Peninsula in Pink campaign to raise awareness and funds for the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care Inc. — its chosen breast cancer charity for many years — will present a month of pinkinfused dining and room experiences for guests to enjoy.

The Art of Pink builds on the partnership The Peninsula Manila has forged with the Estée Lauder Companies, whose Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign is devoted to defeating breast cancer through education and medical research.

“In Southeast Asia, the Philippines has the highest incidence of breast cancer,” says The Peninsula Manila general manager, Mark Choon. “One in every 13 Filipinos falls victim to it and as a man, a brother, a son, a husband and the general manager of an institution that has worked for more than 40 years with various local organizations to help make a difference in the lives of Filipino people, I believe very strongly in the fight against this terrible disease.”

This is the impetus behind The Peninsula Manila’s continuing support of the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc as the charity of choice for its Art of Pink fundraising efforts, and the organization running East Avenue Medical Center’s Breast Care Center.

At the conclusion of last year’s campaign, The Peninsula Manila and Estee Lauder Companies turned over a newly rehabilitated Breast Care Center to the government-run East Avenue Medical Center. Managed by the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc., the center had previously been servicing 30-50 patients in a space that could barely accommodate 20 individuals. After a nine-month construction period, the center reopened with an expanded reception area, a new wing as well as a second floor. Five brand-new chemotherapy infusion chairs were also installed, with Pink for Life Foundation Inc. donating an additional 15 chairs in the second quarter of 2017, that would supplement the two La-Z Boy recliners they had.

“Words cannot begin to describe how very grateful we are for the overwhelming support we have received from everyone who contributed to the fulfillment of this long-cherished project,” adds Choon. “On our last visit to the center, however, we realized that we could and want to do more. The realization that by doing the little that we can, that we might actually be able to help keep families and communities together, this is something that really strikes at the core of what we believe as a company.”

Pink is the preferred color at The Peninsula Manila every October, and to support The Art of Pink initiative this year, the fountain, main entrances and guardian door lions of the hotel will be illuminated in pink each evening until Oct. 31. An exclusive Peninsula in Pink ribbon pin has been designed to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every Peninsula Manila staff member will wear this specially commissioned pink ribbon pin throughout October in support of this initiative. Pins are available for sale at a dedicated donation desk in The Lobby for P250, with proceeds raised from the sale of each pin sold donated to the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc.

The Lobby’s premium teas selected and blended by The Peninsula’s tea masters can be enjoyed throughout October with a special The Art of Pink Peninsula Afternoon Tea, featuring rose-tinted sweet and savory treats presented on a tiered platter for P1,250. In addition, the Pink Afternoon Tea offers may be paired with a chilled flute of rosé Champagne at P1,850. For every The Art of Pink Peninsula Afternoon Tea sold, guests will receive a Peninsula in Pink ribbon pin and a donation will be made to the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc.

All restaurants will offer a Pink Cosmo – a delicious pink cocktail concocted to honor this meaningful initiative, priced at P600, including a Peninsula in Pink ribbon pin, and P400without the pin. A pink mocktail – Pink Flamingo Ice Tea – is available at P490 with a Peninsula in Pink ribbon pin, and P320 without the pin. For every drink sold, a donation will also be made to the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc.

The Peninsula Boutique will also offer a slew of pink pastries – Wild Berry Mascarpone; Macaron, Rose Water and Strawberry Confit; and a Peninsula in Pink Chocolate and Raspberry Ganache – with a portion of the sales proceeds donated to the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc.

Hotel guests booking a Pink Staycation Package can also help in the fight against breast cancer.

Ongoing until Oct. 31, the Pink Staycation Package room rates start at P 9,900 where a P 500 donation per night will be made to the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc. The package includes a Pink Beauty Packet from Estée Lauder containing Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion 125 ml, Limited Edition Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair 50 ml, and a Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Electric Pink 5.6 g; a The Art of Pink Peninsula Afternoon Tea for two at The Lobby (once per stay); and a Pink Welcome Amenity.
