PHEA holds 69th national conference and training
The Philippine Home Economics Association (PHEA) founded in 1948 by the late Dr. Helena Zoila Tirona Benitez has grown and developed into a national NGO bringing together individuals, institutions and organizations in order to improve home economics education and its allied discipline.
PHEA president Susana Guinea with the PHEA board of directors will hold its 69th national conference and training (NC and T) on Oct. 13-15, at Bohol Tropics Resort, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
The theme for this year’s NC and T “Tradition and Innovation: Home Economics Challenges for Sustainable Living” is adapted from the recently concluded International Biennial Congress of the Asian Regional Association for Home Economics (ARAHE) held at the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center, Tokyo Japan last August.
During the congress, PHEA vice president Albert Rosarda the prefect of discipline and junior high school faculty of the technology and livelihood education and information and communications technology areas of the basic education department of Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros Manila was elected as an executive committee officer for the South East Asian countries.
The objectives of the NC and T is to a.) ensure the provision of comprehensive and indepth information on the new Technology and Livelihood Education and Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan curriculum under the Expanded Basic Education Program; b.) provide the participants with updates on EPP Grade IV and senior high school curriculum and TechnicalVocational-Livelihood track; c.) conduct hands-on training on mini courses aligned with the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) accreditation for National Certificate (NC II) or (NC III); d.) empower home economics related organizations in pursuing the association’s vision and mission; and e.) conduct the national elections for PHEA board of directors for 2018-2021.
The new PHEA national constitution and by-laws will also be ratified during the NC and T.
A tree planting activity will be conducted to start the threeday national conference and training chaired by Secretary general Christine Banzuaela. Maria Teresa Namoro, the assistant school’s division superintendent of DepEd Makati and OIC-RD Juliet Jeruta of DepEd Central Visayas will deliver the keynote address.
An inspirational message will be given by Lulu Trias corporate secretary of the Philippine Home Economics Foundation (PHEF). Local Home Economics Related Organizations (HEROs) from the divisions of Paranaque and Las Pinas will also be inducted into office by president Susana Guinea.
The fellowship night will be attended by Bohol Mayor John Geenell Yap II.
The night will be special as the delegate’s parade in their traditional regional costume with a modern twist. During the plenary session, Aida Rondilla the CID chief supervisor of DepEd Manila and also a PHEA national coordinator will explain the rationale and mechanics of the presentation of best practices being the proponent of the segment.
