Keep membership active, PhilHealth reminds members

- Sheila Crisostomo

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has reminded its members to ensure that their membership is active to avoid “unnecessary hassles” when they need to avail themselves of the benefits.

All active members can no longer be declared as dependents, and only inactive members can be declared as dependents, according to PhilHealth Circular 2017-0007.

“PhilHealth members only need to ascertain that their member data records are updated, and that premiums are paid or paid for, to obtain a comprehensive set of benefits that will ensure economic relief when medical attention, treatment and management are needed,” it added.

Confinements should also be in PhilHealth accredited health care institutions, and attending physicians should be accredited as well.

Active members pertain to registered members who have qualifying contributions and sufficient regularity of payment.

Qualifying contributions refer to the minimum number of premium payments required to be granted coverage, while regularity of payment means consistent remittance of premium contributions.

Benefits are guaranteed to active members and their dependents for medical confinements and procedures, selected outpatient surgeries and catastrophic illnesses. –
